Vacation - How-To with FreeBSD

The vacation command returns an e-mail to people who e-mail you telling them you are currently not checking your mailbox with any other explinations how can you be reached .. etc.

Vacation is used in the .forward file in this form:

big, "|/usr/bin/vacation big"

This will keep a copy for all emails you recive at your mailbox and returning a 'message' to senders. your 'messaage' should be placed in the file .vacation.msg in your home directory containing atleast 'Subject: ' from the headers line bare in mind your .vacation.msg should be your enitre message including headers, Example:

Subject: I am on vacation

I am on vacation till Monday, OCT 13th if you have
something urgent please contact me on +xxx-xxx-xxxx.
--Big

Another longer example your .vacation.msg may contain something like:

      From: big@kuwaitnet.net (Bashar Alabdulhadi)
      Subject: I am on vacation
      Delivered-By-The-Graces-Of: The Vacation program
